SIDEWING

FOR WORKSHOPS

Plan the session. Run the room.

For improv teachers and facilitators. Build a session from your own games and the library, run it from your phone, and let Play now draw the next game or suggestion on the spot.

A workshop plan

Plan it like a lesson

  • Start from the library

Over 300 warm-ups, exercises, games and formats, plus techniques to coach.

  • Your own games too

Add the ones only your group plays, or keep your own version and notes on any game in the library.

  • See the shape of the session

What runs when, and how long it all takes, from the first warm-up to the last scene.

  • Templates for the sessions you run often

    A taster, a rehearsal night, a pre-show warm-up.

Run it from your phone

Prop your phone on a chair. What's on, what's next and the clock are all there, so your attention can stay on the room.

  • Now and next

The game you're running, how long it's been going, and what's coming up.

  • A clock that keeps you honest

How far over each activity is, and whether the session's running late.

  • Play now

Draw a game, a suggestion or both, or pick from four and let the room choose.

Try Play now

Keep what worked

  • What you ran

Every session and practice is kept with your past shows.

  • Notes for next time

What landed, and what to change.

  • Reuse a good session

Copy it for next term and adjust it.

Teaching improv outside the theatre?

Schools, universities, teams at work. Plan those sessions the same way, and keep a record of what each group did.

Questions teachers ask

Do I need to be technical?

No. If you can send a WhatsApp, you can run a show. Most nights need Next and Draw, and the rest stays out of the way until you want it.

Can I use it for workshops, not shows?

Yes. Plan a session, run it from your phone, and use Play now for warm-ups and practice.

I teach on my own. Is it for me?

Yes. Everyone gets their own space for their games and plans, and you can bring a group in when you need one.

Is it AI?

The suggestions on show night come from your audience. Play now draws from Sidewing's bank: real audience suggestions, plus many written for Sidewing, some with the help of AI before they were added. Nothing is generated live, and nothing you type is sent to an AI.

Can I bring my own games?

Yes. Add them to your library with your own notes, or keep your own version of any game in the shared library.

What can we run it on?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser, and any mix of them: the producer on an iPad, the host on a phone, the big screen on a laptop plugged into the projector. Nothing to install. Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android will follow.

Can we try it?

Sidewing is in early testing, so troupes join one at a time. Email hello@getsidewing.com and tell us about yours.
